
Dragons Drop Conference Opener to No. 3 Old Dominion

Philadelphia – Drexel Field Hockey lost its first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season, 5-0, to No. 3 Old Dominion on Buckley Field. Old Dominion was scoreless for the first 34 minutes, but finished the game with a flurry of goals to secure its first conference victory of the year. The win improved the Lady Monarchs' record to 9-1 (1-0 CAA) while the Dragons fell to 6-3 (0-1 CAA).
The game remained scoreless through most of the first half. Though Old Dominion outshot the Dragons in the opening period, Drexel generated offensive opportunities including three penalty corners. On the final penalty corner of the half for Drexel, senior Karie Walton (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) beat Old Dominion goalie Kelly Driscoll with a shot near the top of the arc, but the ball just slid left of the cage. With just 41 seconds remaining in the period, Old Dominion's Dana Sensenig scored on a rebound to give the Lady Monarchs the lead going into halftime.
Old Dominion would add four goals in the second half, including Sensenig's second of the contest. The two-time First Team All-CAA midfielder finished with five points on two goals and an assist.
Drexel's Colleen McAndrew (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) finished with a season-high 15 saves in goal. Driscoll made one stop for the Lady Monarchs. For the game, Old Dominion outshot Drexel, 35-6, and earned 14 penalty corners to the Dragons' four.
The Dragons will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to take on William & Mary in another Colonial Athletic Association contest on Friday, Sept. 29. Game time is 7 p.m.
